About
Maïté Baldi is a documentary photographer and photojournalist based in Marseille. A 2016 graduate of the École Agnès Varda in Brussels, she initially focused on unique life stories (Mbaye, une vie de pêche, 2018-2020; Pour que la messe soit dite, 2021-2023), then to social issues such as beauty standards influenced by social media and the bodybuilding boom among French youth (Young muscle, work in progress initiated in 2025).
In 2019, she took part in a residency at the Numéro Zéro festival in Forcalquier and developed a new approach combining photography and sound creation, exploring the territory, its inhabitants, and the world of dreams as a gateway to the unconscious. In 2025, during a residency in Poland, with the series Fialki, she explored the porosity between reality and strangeness, in the spirit of literary magical realism.
Maïté Baldi also contributes to the international collaborative project One in Six by 2030, dedicated to the aging of the world's population, initiated by photographers from the VII agency.
She regularly collaborates with the press (The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Observer, Le Monde, Mediapart, Causette, Die Zeit, Télérama, Reporterre, etc.) as well as with international organizations (Greenpeace, Amnesty International, WWF, Secours Populaire, etc.). She also carries out institutional commissions for companies, productions, and agencies in France and abroad.
